Hive Home   Hive Makes Turning Your Home Into A Smarthome A Breeze!

Hive Home

Have you been wanting to know more about OR actually turn your home into a Smarthome? This topic has been trending for quite some time now. Over the past 3 months, I have had the opportunity to have some parts of my home turned “Smart”, and I wanted to share my experience with you. Happy reading!

Hive Ambassador… I’m One!

A few months ago, I became a blog Ambassador for Hive Home. The company sent me a very nice home kit package to set up in my home. I would have shared this with you guys earlier, but time, family matters, and other factors delayed my posting, and I apologize for that.

I received the Welcome Home Plan with a complimentary 2 year subscription, a total package worth $700! My plan includes:

  • 1 x Hive Active Thermostat– Controls your home heating and cooling system
  • 2 x Hive Active Light – Switch lights on and off, set schedules, and dim lights
  • 1 x Hive Active Plug – Turn electrical appliances like an iron, radio or lamp on and off
  • 2 x Hive Window or Door Sensors – send alerts to a phone if windows or doors are opened or closed
  • 1 x Hive Hub – plugs into a broadband router to see and control the Hive ecosystem of products from a smartphone, tablet or laptop

The light, plug, and Hive Hub were pretty easy for me to install on my own. The thermostat, however, took a little more effort and help. NOTE: My current AC/Heat controller was outdated, so because of that I needed a different type of installation.

Easy To Start

There are steps to properly installing Hive products in your home. The first step is to download the app onto your phone and create your Hive account online first , then connect your Hive Hub to your wireless network. The Hub is like the brain of your entire Hive system. It sends the commands to all of your products so they know when to turn on and/or adjust when you are using the Hive app. So, if you do choose to purchase a Hive Home kit, please be sure to set up your hub. This first step is very important.

The Hive Active Lights I received are pretty cool. I got 2 of them, and I used one in my living room and one in my kitchen. They are simple to install.  You simply put the bulb into whatever light socket or lamp you want it in. After that install, turn the light ON, and open you Hive app. The app will then lock onto your bulb. Once it does, you’ll be able to turn your light on or off, and even control the brightness, coolness, and warmth of the light. And, you do this all with your phone. You don’t even need to be near the light to get this to work; it’s done through your app and Hive hub!

Oh yeah, another note for you… your light needs to be on the “ON” position at all times for the Hub to be able to to connect and communicate with any of your Hive Smarthome products. If it’s not turned on, then no power is there to wake them up.

 Easy To Use

Once I completed the set up for my Hive lights, I immediately was able to use them. I simply opened my phone app and began to control my light and plug/outlet functions. It’s pretty cool to be able to have the power of turning your light on and off using your phone! The thermostat function is even cooler. I say that because now I can have my AC/Heat off while out of the house, and then turn it on when I am heading back home. No more wasting energy by keeping the heat/AC on and no more coming home to a hot house in the Summer or a super cold home in the Winter!

I have made a demonstration video to show you how easy it is to use Hive Home products. It’s posted below. I hope you like it!
