Meatless Monday … What’s YOUR Plan Today ?

Meatless Monday. It’s beginning to catch on ….again. For those of who don’t know what Meatless Monday is about ,here’s a brief description –

Meatless Monday is an international campaign that encourages people to not eat meat on Mondays to improve their health and the health of the planet.

Meatless Monday is a non-profit initiative of The Monday Campaigns Inc. in association with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for a Livable Future. Meatless Monday was founded in 2003 by marketing professional Sid Lerner. The program follows the nutrition guidelines developed by the USDA.[1] Meatless Monday is part of the Healthy Monday initiative.[2] Healthy Monday encourages Americans to make healthier decisions at the start of every week. Other Healthy Monday campaigns include: The Kids Cook Monday, Monday 2000, Quit and Stay Quit Monday, Move it Monday, The Monday Mile, and others. ” (wikipedia )

    

  Did you know that before today’s “Meatless Monday”, The U.S. had meatless Tuesdays,and they even have one meatless meal each day . It was in an effort to help slow consumption of the nations staples…  kind of like, rationing. This happened during the times of war and the depression. Whoa … I just learned something.

  Now, I am a meat eater. I love meat. But I also know that there are other great foods out there That I could (and should) be eating. So, I decided to take the pledge and go meatless on Mondays. What the heck… it’s only one day out of the week and it’s not going to hurt me,right ? So … here’s goes nothing; My Meatless Monday journey starts . NOW. I’m off to plan my meals for today; I will share photos with you all later . Will you be joining me ?
