Make Your Drinks The Way Bartenders Do … With BTIPSY

I like to host a good handful of entertaining parties at my home throughout the year. When I do host these events, there are usually a variety of great drinks available for my guests that I make myself. Sometimes, these drinks require a certain treatment other than pouring and stirring liquids;Sometimes, the drinks require muddling. So …I know you’re asking … “What is Muddling ” ?

  • Definition:

To muddle is to combine ingredients, usually in the bottom of a mixing glass, by pressing them with a muddler before adding the majority of the liquid ingredients. (About.com)

One of the more common drinks that require muddling is the infamous mojito. In this easy to make drink,it is necessary to muddle your lime in the glass that your drink is being made in. Now, you could muddle the lime just by squeezing it, but the true practice of the art needs the right equipment, and that equipment is a muddler. I have to admit, I have never owned a muddler before,so when BTIPSY chose me to review theirs, I was super stoked to say “yes”. The BTIPSY muddler itself is a one piece metal item. It’s small and lightweight, and it has a rubber end to the actual “muddling” side. I like this addition, because having metal against your glass while grinding or pressing against the glass could make for a fiasco. (* Note… some muddlers are also in wooden form.)

The BTIPSY muddler is easy to handle, and doesn’t require much when it comes to care (i.e., cleaning it).It does the job at getting your muddled/mixed drinks at their peak of flavor ,too. I’m glad to have the BTIPSY muddler in my arsenal of bartender tools because in my book, if you’re gonna make a good drink, you need the right glassware, the right liquids/mixers,and the right tools for the job.
